No obligation. We respond same business day.
Tuff Rib Ag — often called an ag panel or agricultural panel — is a screw-down, exposed-fastener metal roofing and siding profile. The raised ribs run the length of the panel and give it structural rigidity; the flat sections between them are where fasteners seat flush against a rubber-washered screw for a watertight connection.
It's been the go-to panel for barns, sheds, and agricultural outbuildings for decades — and for good reason. It installs fast, costs less per square foot than hidden-fastener systems, and handles the kind of thermal expansion and contraction that New England winters demand.
At Hometown Metal Roofing, we roll-form every Tuff Rib Ag panel to your exact specified length at our Westfield, MA shop. That means no wasted material from stock lengths and no waiting two weeks for a shipment from out of state.
Grade 80 steel is the hardest we carry — it holds up to the expansion, contraction, and weather exposure that New England throws at a building.
Grade 80 Galvalume — the hardest steel we carry. WeatherXL paint + Red Dot Galvalume warranty.
Grade 80 Galvalume with a textured paint finish. WeatherXL + Red Dot warranty. Hides minor oil-canning.
Each panel covers exactly 36 inches — 1 linear foot = 3 sq ft of coverage. Easy to calculate.
16" OC also works. Can be applied directly over plywood. Max 36" OC for vertical sidewalls.
Same profile. Same Grade 80 Galvalume steel. Same warranties. The difference is gauge thickness and paint surface.
The most popular choice. Bright, clean finish. Grade 80 Galvalume steel at 28 gauge — a harder, thicker panel than most big-box alternatives. WeatherXL paint system, Red Dot Galvalume warranty. Available in all standard colors.
A slightly heavier 26-gauge panel with a textured matte paint finish. The textured surface hides minor surface variation and oil-canning better than a glossy finish, and provides a more subdued appearance. Same Grade 80 Galvalume steel, same warranties.
Tuff Rib Ag is one of the most versatile metal roofing profiles available — equally at home on a working dairy barn, a backyard shed, or a residential re-roof.
Every Tuff Rib Ag panel we produce is roll-formed to your exact specified length at our manufacturing facility in Westfield, MA. We stock the coil, form the panels, and have most orders ready in 24–48 hours — compared to the 1–3 week lead times typical of out-of-state roll-formers shipped through lumber yards or big-box stores.
You can pick up directly at our Westfield shop, or we deliver across our full service area. We have one location — no branches, no franchises — just direct service from the people who made your panels.
The Tuff Rib Ag Liner Panel is a 29-gauge variant of the same profile, available exclusively in white. It's designed for interior applications — warehouse ceilings, shop walls, barn interiors, and equipment building liners — where a bright, clean finish makes a space more functional and easier to light.
Straight answers to the questions we hear most from homeowners, farmers, and contractors.
Tuff Rib Ag is a screw-down exposed-fastener metal roofing and siding panel used on agricultural buildings, barns, horse stalls, storage sheds, garages, residential outbuildings, and budget-conscious re-roofs. It's one of the most common panel profiles in New England because it installs quickly, holds up to harsh weather, and carries a full paint and substrate warranty.
Tuff Rib Ag comes in two gauge options: 28 gauge with a glossy paint finish and 26 gauge with a textured paint finish. Both are Grade 80 Galvalume steel — the hardest grade we stock. The 26-gauge textured finish is slightly thicker and hides minor surface variation. Both carry WeatherXL paint and Red Dot Galvalume warranties.
Each Tuff Rib Ag panel covers exactly 36 inches (3 feet) of width. That means 1 linear foot of panel equals 3 square feet of coverage. When calculating how many panels you need, divide your total roof square footage by 3 to get linear feet. Our team can help you work through the math if needed.
For roof applications, Tuff Rib Ag requires purlins spaced no more than 24 inches on center — 16 inches on center is also fine and commonly used on residential projects. The panel can also be applied directly over solid plywood decking. For vertical sidewalls, purlin spacing can open up to 36 inches on center. Always confirm framing requirements with a qualified contractor or engineer for your specific building.
Screws go in the FLAT between the ribs — specifically, right alongside the rib in the flat plane, not in the rib itself. Driving a screw through the top of the rib deforms the rounded profile and creates a poor seal. The flat between ribs is about 9 inches wide, and the best practice is to place screws in the flat right next to the rib. Modern EPDM-washered screws used this way create a watertight seal that lasts 40+ years.
Yes. Tuff Rib Ag panels carry two warranties: the WeatherXL paint warranty covering the painted surface against fading, chalking, and peeling; and the Red Dot Galvalume warranty covering the AZ50 Galvalume substrate against corrosion. Both warranties apply to all Tuff Rib Ag panels we produce, whether glossy or textured finish.
The glossy finish is 28-gauge Grade 80 Galvalume — our standard Tuff Rib Ag. It has a smooth, reflective paint surface and is the most widely used option. The textured finish is 26-gauge Grade 80 Galvalume — slightly thicker — with a matte, textured paint that hides minor surface variation and oil-canning better. Both share the same profile, the same structural performance, and the same warranties. The choice typically comes down to appearance preference and application.
All of our Tuff Rib Ag panels are cut to your exact specified length — we don't sell stock lengths.
